Season Almost Underway

Sunday the team ran it's final scrimmage leading up to their opening series this Friday at Cal State Bakersfield. The scrimmage was set up as five individual, two inning games. Running the 8th and 9th inning with various pre-determined gamestates to test the pitchers and defenses. To read a good recap, head here (the Daily Evergreen) to read the recap my fellow baseball writer Adam Lewis threw together.

Also, the great staff over at the WSU Athletic Department caught up with Coach Marbut and James Wise after the scrimmage. I'll post the video and a few quick thoughts after the jump, don't want to weigh down the front page with videos.

The season starts out on the road, and it's a blessing believe me. The snow we got last night and are expecting tonight, plus the rain the rest of the week would threaten to push these games back to later in the season.

Starting in California will be nice for the team. Cal State Bakersfield shouldn't provide too much trouble for the Cougs and will help them see what their rotation will look like without Chad Arnold for the rest of non-conference play.

The first home series is scheduled for Feb. 25-27 against UC Santa Barbara. I'll be at all three games and will be Tweeting from the press box (@brett_gleason) as well as providing a game recap here later each day.

Before the Cal State Bakersfield series on Friday I'm hoping to put up a series preview, we'll see how much I can write with the limited info I'm bound to find.
